FAQ
Why won't the 3 key work?
The 3 key is fully operational and requires only that it be pressed correctly. Press and hold it firmly for a sustained period. Release. Repeat this three times without interruption or intervening keystrokes. A 3 will be produced.
That seems like a great deal of effort for one digit.
Most calculations do not require a 3. We encourage users to review their arithmetic and consider whether a 3 is genuinely necessary before committing to the sequence above.
Can I obtain a 3 by adding 1 and 2?
Yes. Results are entirely unrestricted and may contain any digit, including 3. This is in fact the recommended workflow and is considerably faster than the sustained-pressure method.
Is the crack in the key cosmetic?
The crack is structural. It is not covered under warranty.
Why is 3 the affected digit?
Because 3 is stupid.
My physical keyboard's 3 key has also stopped working. Is this related?
Only within Calculator™. Your keyboard's 3 key is subject to the same sustained-pressure requirement while this application is open, for consistency. Your keyboard is otherwise unharmed.
Will other digits break?
There are no current plans to break additional digits.
Tips and Tricks
The following substitutions allow most 3-containing values to be entered without invoking the 3 key at all:
- For 3, enter 1 + 2
- For 30, enter 6 × 5
- For 300, enter 60 × 5
- For 13, enter 26 ÷ 2
- For 0.3, enter 6 ÷ 20
With sufficient planning, any value containing a 3 can be reached from values that do not. Users who find this inconvenient may wish to round to a nearby number that contains no 3.
The 4 key is immediately adjacent to the 3 key and remains fully functional.
Keyboard support: digits, + − × ÷, Enter for equals, Escape for clear, and Backspace all work as expected.
